Kimberly Buchholz

Kimberly Buchholz brings an intentional and human-centered perspective to Hungry Architecture, exploring how design can advance equity, accessibility, and collective well-being. As Director of Design, she provides leadership that connects artistry, activism, and environmental responsibility to create spaces that resonate socially and culturally.

Her work extends across residential, commercial, and civic contexts, guided by research and collaboration. Kim’s approach centers on participation, care, and the belief that design holds the power to repair and reimagine the systems that shape daily life. She has championed adaptive environments for rehabilitation, green infrastructure in underserved communities, and participatory design initiatives that make architecture more inclusive and responsive.

As Program Director of Western Michigan University’s Richmond Institute for Design and Innovation (RID+I) Interior Architecture and Design program, Kim bridges education and practice, developing curriculum and mentorship that empower students to use design as a tool for meaningful impact. Her leadership grounds Hungry Architecture’s practice in empathy and civic responsibility, ensuring every project—whether intimate or infrastructural—reflects the shared humanity of those it serves.
